Hi friends,
Tell me you’re getting older without telling me you’re getting older. Alright then, let me tell you about my love affair at the moment with both soups and batch cooking. Something my mid-twenties self would have been like alright Em, maybe you need to, like, go outside and see people? It has become my own meditation - a way of organising myself for the week ahead, doing something with my hands that is meaningful, not just typing on a keyboard (not to say that can’t be meaningful, but making something feels incredibly meaningful to me).
I’ve now decided to explore preserves, wanting to waste less. I realise as I grow older, I want to use everything around me rather seeking new stuff. I do that with clothes, with things I buy. My o.w (other whole, rather than half, he isn’t, nor am I, a half) is a keen fan of finding things on the street (non-Londoners, I really took some time to get my head around it too, but there are some GEMS in the big smoke, let me tell you) and I recently took my first thing from a beautiful house that had left empty jars out the front of their door for people to take. I want to preserve more and these jars were the perfect freebies to grab and give new life too.
It sounds small, perhaps silly, but knowing I can use things discarded in a helpful way, feels so incredibly lovely. I can’t wait to do more.
Em x
